The AAFOnline Colour Selector is a tool used to quickly and easily locate a colour and print specifications.
Simply enter as much, or as little criteria as you like and hit the "Search" button. Then, click on the colour row of your choice to bring up a comprehensive Colour Specifications Card. As a general rule, you will get more results if you enter information in as few fields as possible. . For example, if you are looking for a specific colour name or number, there is no need to enter any information in any of the other fields. Results can always be refined later by adding more conditions to the search - by clicking on the advanced options button you will gain access to more complex criteria.
By printing the Colour Specifications Card, you have everything you need to specify your chosen finish.
Finish Type - Click on the drop-down box to choose anodising or powdercoating finishes.
Colour Group - Looking for a specific colour? All colours have been grouped into one or more colour groups, choose one from the drop down box to locate your required colour. The results will list your chosen colours first, followed by colours which are a combination of your chosen colour plus others.
Manufacturer - If you wish to look for colours by the specific manufacturers , i.e. AAF (anodising), Dulux, or Akzo
Nobel – Interpon (both powdercoating), choose the manufacturers name from the drop down box.
Product Colour Name - If you are looking for a specific colour (perhaps you have only have part of the colour name), you can enter it here. This function will also locate colours with superseded or alternate colour names.
Manufacturer's Colour Code - Similar to the colour name search, you can enter whole or part of the colour code to locate your chosen finish.
Finish Brand - If you have a specific finish brand in mind, you can choose one from the drop down box. Further information on the brands are available on the manufacturer’s websites (Dulux Powders and Interpon, for AAF anodising brands click here). However it is not necessary to have a brand in mind when looking for a colour, so you may find it preferable to use other options unless you are after a specific brand.
Other Finish Brand - Some of the lesser-used brands can be chosen if you choose “other” from the “Finish Brand” down box, once chosen the other finish brand options are then available to select from this drop down box.
Warranty - Film Integrity and Warranty - Colour - Choose your required warranty option by clicking on the drop down boxes. Powdercoating warranties differentiate between the film integrity and colour, and the warranty offer for both is not necessarily the same for a given colour. As a general rule, the film integrity warranty will be at least as great as the colour warranty. All manufacturers have specific terms and conditions relating to warranties and they are not automatically conferred – reference should be made to the manufacturers for further clarification. Click on the adjacent check box if you want to include all warranties equivalent or greater to those you have specified, otherwise leave this check box blank for the exact warranty requirement.
Lustre - If you wish to restrict a colour search to, say gloss finishes, you can do so by choosing from the options in the drop down boxes. Some finishes are specific to products, e.g. frosted applies only to anodising colours. Also some powdercoat colours have no official lustre because of their texture, hence the N/A option.
Metallic / Pearl - If you wish to narrow your search down to metallic / pearl or non-metallic / pearl colours, choose Yes or No from the drop-down box.
Ripple/Texture - If you wish to narrow your search down to ripple/texture or non- ripple/texture finishes, choose Yes or No from the drop-down box.
Project Colours - If you wish to narrow your search down to Project or non- project colours, choose Yes or No from the drop-down box. Project colours are make to order and have associated lead times and minimum quantities - refer to AAF or the manufacturer for details.
Exclude obsolete colours - If you place a tick in this checkbox, obsolete colours will be excluded from the results.
Results are sorted firstly by primary colour group, then alphabetically within each group. Colours which are greyed out are obsolete – if you place your mouse over these colour rows, a message will tell you if there is an alternative colour available. At the end of each row is a key which will indicate specifics about the colour, such as whether it is metallic/pearl or whether it is a ripple/texture finish.
Placing you mouse over a colour can give you further information such as whether the colour is a make-to-order or not. This information is also provided on the Colour Specifications card obtained by clicking on the colour row.
The specifications card can be readily printed out for reference. At the bottom of this card is text which can be pasted into your specification.
